Consider Costa Blanca Real Estate for Your Second Home

by Ray Walberg
Are you thinking about purchasing vacation property in Spain? One of the most popular regions for foreign investment is along the Costa Blanca. This area has mild climate, beautiful beaches and world class golf courses so it’s no wonder that it’s so popular with tourists. Here are some things to take into consideration when looking for Costa Blanca real estate.

Budget

Purchasing a vacation property can get you caught up in the excitement of something luxurious so the first thing you need to consider is your budget. Look at your finances and honestly determine the amount you can afford. Your budget should not just include the sale price of the property. On top of that are also taxes, lawyer costs and real estate fees associated with buying property in a foreign country. You will also need funds for visiting the area and looking at properties. Many will tell you to set aside 10 percent of the purchase price for these kinds of expenses.

Once you have determined your budget it’s important to stick to it. Only look at properties that are in or below your price range. If you’re tempted to spend more then you could find yourself in deeper debt than you planned.

Purpose

Consider the purpose of your real estate investment. This will help you determine what kind of property to buy, where it is located, and how much you want to invest. If you’re planning on using it solely as a vacation home then you’ll probably want to spend less and will therefore look outside the highly touristed areas for a better deal. If, on the other hand you're planning on renting it out most of the year then you can invest more (since you’ll be profiting later) but should find something in the heart of the tourist area or beachfront.

Location

The location should not only be based on your personal tastes at the moment but you need to look into the future. You might think you’ll enjoy something in the heart of the tourist action but down the road you might prefer something quieter. Also think about transportation options. Try to find something near public transportation and within walking distance of stores and activities. This is especially important if you are planning to rent your property out to vacationers.

Finding Costa Blanca Vacation Property

The internet is your best tool for looking for real estate and other services relating to your search. You can research the market by looking at properties for sale in the area you’re interested in. Websites will have essential information about the property and pictures so you can see what your budget will buy you.

You can also use the internet to find a reputable real estate agent. An agent is essential for finding a property since they will speak the language and know the legalities of Spanish property purchase.
